Our Trip To Texas, Yee Haw

David travels for work several times a year. Last July the kids and I accompanied him on a trip to Washington D.C. for a week and really had a great time seeing our nation's capitol and all of the sights. It was an amazing trip that we will all remember forever.

Two weeks ago I accompanied him to San Antonio, Texas. No kids. Just us. It was almost like a second honeymoon...except he had to spend most of the day time hours at a conference.

I love the kids, don't get me wrong, but some days the role of custodial step mother weighs on me and I am wistful for those days of just me and my husband. I got my fill on our trip to Texas.

We spent a week in an amazing hotel right on the River Walk. We had a great view of The Towers of America (built for the 1964 World's Fair and resembling The Space Needle), the city lights and the River Walk.

Here is a pic of The Tower as viewed from the River Walk.

Spending that time just as a couple was very renewing for us and really filled me back up to come home and once again be a full time mother to two children who sometimes need more than I think I am able to give or provide. My whole family benefited from our trip!

As we were driving one day I spied these stained glass windows with Stars of David on them. We mistakenly assumed it was formerly a Synagogue. I researched the history of it and it was originally a gymnasium built by German Imigrants, then a USO during WWII when it was painted olive drab green and the windows covered, then a storage house for the Postal Service, then purchased by a man, the paint stripped and turned into one of the longest continually operating Gay Bars! The building is gorgeous, but the use bothers me just a tad.

How fantastic for you and your hubby to get away. It's good to recharge. I'm beginning to realize how spoiled I really am to have every other weekend free of the kids.
