I am a Grand Mother Part Deux

Since I posted all the pics of them already, I thought I would share THEM with you.

Grace is a little imp, always getting into things as soon as she could roll around. She was a beautiful baby. So beautiful that people would literally stop us to gaze at her. I was present for her arrival into this world. What an experience that was. So different from being on the other end of things. Nicole did great. I fell in love at first sight. Oh dear, this is why we let our children survive, so they can give us these angels called Grand Children!

Grace and I share a very deep bond. One that if I go too long between visits I start to get quite grumpy, sort of like withdrawls.

Then comes Breanna. Poor Nicole. She had some complications that landed her at her doctor's office on Christmas Eve. Such severe complications that she was AIR LIFTED from the hospital adjecent to her doctor's office to Good Samaritan Hospital immediately.

Apparently Nicole's body was done being pregnant and she was dilating....and her amniotic sac was protruding. What a mess! The only problem is that Nicole was only 24 weeks pregnant at this time. She was admited and the WORST doctor in the world came in to talk to us. He was cruel. He told us that Nicole's sac was infected and that they would proceed to allow her to deliver the baby and, "Wrap it in a warm blanket and let it pass." Those were his exact words. Now, Mama Bear stepped right in and told that doctor in no uncertain terms that not only would he NEVER be touching my child again but that he was wrong. Dead wrong and I was willing to eat my words if I was wrong....but as Nicole will tell you I am NEVER wrong.

From here I demanded that she have amniocentesis (needle through the belly to examin amniotic fluid). This was the ONLY way to tell if she was indeed infected. I knew that, and the dumbass doctor was not going to treat us like we were fools. The results: There was no infection. Of course.

The next two weeks were eventful for poor Nicole. She was poked and proded daily. There were monitors strapped to her every where. She was not allowed to do anything but lay flat. She was medicated to the point that she puked. A lot. She would get stable and they would move her to a regular room, just to move her back to the special floor/special room right away.

Two weeks after she was admitted I got a call from the hospital requesting I give permission for them to perform and emergency C-Section. The baby was starting to show signs of distress.

Breanna arrived weighing 1 lb 15 oz. She was a fighter. As the nurse wheeled her past me out of the operating room she took the bag that was forcing her to breathe away to proudly display that Breanna wanted to breathe on her own!

For the next 3 months Breanna fought everything a preemie could fight, including contracting the MRSA virus! She was released about 3 days prior to her due date weighing just at 5lbs. She came home with a multitude of medication and equipment. What a ride that was!

Here she is a few weeks before she was able to come home:

Breanna has some delays. She doesn't talk much and didn't potty train until about 8 months ago, but like most of us heard when we started the potty training stuff....they won't go to kinder in diapers, and she didn't. She is a stubborn little thing who does things as she feels fit. She is in Kindergarten now and doing very well. She is making a lot of progress and LOVES school.

She loves her Nana and gets very mad when I take her home....she yells and yells at me. It is cute, but I am sure it hurts Nicole's feelings a bit.

These girls have been such a blessing. I can not for one minute imagine life without them.
